Dental Bonding

Serving the Midwest City, Choctaw, and Harrah Areas

Dental Bonding in Choctaw, OKComposite tooth dental bonding is a cosmetic dentistry technique that can work wonders for your smile.

The materials used are matched to the shade, translucency and texture of your teeth, so that defects can be smoothly corrected:

  • Gaps between the teeth can be closed
  • Spots and stains can be covered
  • Chips in the teeth can be filled
  • The shape of the tooth can be improved

How is a tooth bonded?

Dental bonding composite materials have a paste-like consistency so they can be sculpted to the right shape. They contain pigments matched to your tooth color, and they come in different degrees of translucency to match that of the natural teeth.

Tooth dental bonding is usually done in one-visit.

  • The tooth is lightly roughened where it needs repair, a procedure which usually doesn't require anesthetic
  • The surface is etched with a gel
  • Dental bonding primers and resins are applied
  • The composite material is applied in several layers so as to match the depth of color in the natural teeth
  • It's then hardened by a high-intensity specially-designed light

With the latest dental bonding technology, we can match the color detail and translucency of your tooth for a natural and healthy appearance.

How long will dental bonding last?

How long dental bonding lasts depends on individual factors. Under most conditions, and if it's well cared-for, bonding won't darken or discolor over the years, any more than your natural teeth will.

  • Many people will be in the same excellent shape after ten or 15 years as they were on the first day
  • Some will get staining on the dental bonding margins after one or two years and need some touch-up work.
  • Improper cleaning can sometimes damage it
  • It should hold up well to the stresses of average mouth functions

How to care for your dental bonding
  • Have a professional cleaning done twice a year (or as often as three or four times a year, if you have a large amount of dental bonding done). Be sure the hygienist or dentist who is doing the cleaning is experienced with dental bonding
  • Brush and floss carefully and regularly
  • Avoid sugary or starchy food between meals
  • Use soft brushes and gentle toothpaste. Harsh cleaning will take some of the shine off the dental bonding surface, making it more likely to discolor

Some touch-up work would be normal after four or five years, but if you take good care of it, replacement of your dental bonding will probably never be necessary.
